Nero di Marte
An opaque, intense black pigment derived by iron oxydes, in use in paintings since the beginning of the XX century. Its name originates from both the god Mars’s role in mythology and the influence the planet Mars had in the processing of iron according to alchemical tradition.
ero di Marte is an experimental metal band based in Bologna, Italy. The band has released 2 albums under USA based label Prosthetic Records. Their music has been described in many ways: dark, progressive, atmospheric, dissonant, melodic, claustrophobic, expansive… though they prefer to let their music speak for itself.
After signing to Prosthetic Records and releasing their self-titled album “Nero di Marte” in 2013, the band was invited to tour North America with death metal legends Gorguts and Origin. Following the success of the tour, NDM returned to Studio 73 (Ephel Duath, The Secret) a few months later to record their sophomore album, Derivae, released in October 2014 on Prosthetic. Hypnotic, dark and tragic - Derivae is the culmination of 3 years of work and is by far the band’s most expansive and diverse effort to date.
In 2014 the band publishes a split 7″ with Void of Sleep containing the song Finis Terrae as part of a fundraising campaign for having undergone the theft of all their equipment. During 2015 and 2016 the band promotes Derivae with numerous live appearances in Italy and a full european tour with Gorguts, Psycroptic and Dysrhythmia. Derivae’s cycle ends with the band’s second official video clip, a short film for the song Those Who Leave directed by Rosamaria Montalbano/Rami Factory.
With Marco Bolognini leaving in late 2016, the band recruits drummer Giulio Galati (Hideous Divinity) in early 2017. The band is currently committed to complete their third full-lenght album, scheduled to be recorded during 2018.
NDM has toured and performed in North America, Europe and Italy with major acts such as Gorguts, Psycroptic, Dysrhythmia, Godflesh, Cynic, Decapitated, Red Fang, Origin, The Ocean, Intronaut and Ulcerate among many others.
